Don’t over write folders when updating the main theme; you need to DELETE the old folders and replace with NEW folders.
The visual composer didn’t change with 1.4,
but otherwise try using my “moving to newsmag theme” sticky topic.
I just did this yesterday, and I’m now on 1.4.
I don’t use child themes, myself due to consistent problems with plugins.
Remember you need to turn off caching, clear caching/CDN reset if used, and turn off all plugins when updating theme.
I am using six rows to create my homepage. The rows are split in either two or three columns with the last column meant for the sidebar. I am using the first (in two-column row) and first, second column (in three column row) to build the left panel. But I am not able to create a widgetised sidebar since I am left with six columns (the last column of each row). If I use the last column of the first row to place the widgetised sidebar, the remaining five ‘last columns’ are still left unused. Also, the left panel of the first row height is automatically increased to the height of the widgetised sidebar, leaving a huge blank space until the end of the height. If I am able to merge all the six last columns into one, and use it for the widgetised sidebar, my problem will be solved. How to merge the columns into one? Anyone please help. Thanks
Hello,
We have just upgraded to the very latest version of the Newspaper Theme 4.6.1, WordPress 4.1 and the latest WP Bakery Visual Composer 4.3.5.
When we load our website’s main page, that has the “Big Slider” the slider loads blank. There are “two” frames that are blank, then the slider runs with images present.
My settings are 16 posts to make 4 separate slides of content, with 6 second delay to start slides. When the page is first loaded, there are “two blank slides” then the rest of the slides (4) load with images.
Does anyone else have or had this trouble? We have disabled all plugins and it still happens.
Thank you.
Hi,
I have a few questions:
– Are the .less files in /less_files folder dynamically compiled by the theme or are they just used by the developers to compile it to a .css file, becuause I noticed that style.css and the less files have many lines of code in common? Otherwise I will remove the folder.
– Is the booster plugin automatically enabled when I install the theme, because the theme doesn’t ask me to install it like visual composer and the social plugin?
Thanks in advance,
Engo
Hello
How do I update the plugin tagdiv social counter?
I have already updated the themes and visual composer, but do not know how to counter social.
I have the v.2.7 and the theme are the v.2.8.
I unzip the zip file directly in the directory? uninstalling the old version and the new upload?
thanks
Jose
Chris,
Thanks for the reply.
Yes, I have tried it every way possible.. I just tried again. I only have visual composer installed at the moment. Just cleared cache and tried it. No go.
When I go to “import predefined styles” and click “Tech” it should change my homepage to the tech layout right? With the three post boxes across the top? If so, the site stays looking like a regular blog with the posts all in order going straight down? Nothing is on the sidebar either.
I’ve messed around with it all day trying to figure it out. I have no clue at this point..
Thanks
Did you try with cache cleared and off, and with all plugins off except for visual composer?
I have zero problems with this.
Hi,
You don’t need to update/activate it as the updated and latest version it is added within theme’s files so you just need to download the latest theme version(4.6.1) from themeforest: http://themeforest.net/downloads ..then update your theme using this guide and the FTP method: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme/
After that remove the VC plugin and use this guide to install the VC plugin included within the /plugins folder that was included within the theme files you’ve downloaded from themeforest: https://forum.tagdiv.com/update-the-visual-composer-plugin-wpbakery/
Thanks
The system is asking to update my WPBakery Visual Composer, but appear rhis message: “Please activate your license in Product License tab”
This plugin was included in Newspaper Theme, so what do I have to do?
Hi,
We do recommend the use of W3 total cache plugin with just the page cache enabled and without the minification options or CDN: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-make-the-site-faster/ the fifth step.
I have checked your site and noticed that you do use CDN which generates lots of errors: http://screencast.com/t/Iww2px49is
Please make sure that you disable CDN and just leave page caching active then check for this again without any plugins active, disable all of them leaving just Visual Composer and W3TC and test again.
Please let mew know how it goes!
Thanks
Hi,
I believe you refer to the Visual Composer issues which appear with older versions of VC when updating WordPress to 4.1
I have noticed you use already use the latest theme version(4.6.1) and also the latest VC version(4.3.5) which should work fine together as the VC was fixed in the latest version to work on WordPress 4.1 also.
I have noticed though some extra css, the one that adds the space between elements which should not be there so you could try to remove and re-install it from the plugins folder that was provided within the theme’s downloaded files and use this guide to do it: https://forum.tagdiv.com/update-the-visual-composer-plugin-wpbakery/
After that remove the css I gave you and check if those space are still added.
Please let me know how it goes!
Thanks
Have you tried running the theme with *only* the Visual Composer plugin activated and all other plugins off? Then checking to see what errors you might be getting? Then if none, slowly turn on each other plugin to see what happens? This is best way to debug the problem, and figure out WHAT is causing overload.
I’ve had no such problems with the theme over here, beyond the normal hiccup doing updates (see my sticky post on migrating theme).
Hi,
Unfortunately we haven’t been able to make any progresses with this and the latest update was an update of the Visual Composer plugin which was creating issues when used with the latest version of WordPress 4.1: http://screencast.com/t/MwFBO2oHi
We are working to a new grid which will support all VC elements which will be available on 2/3 mounts.
Thanks for the message!
Hi there …
Thank you very much! This helps us 🙂
But just for asking the question … Did you see something strange in our code, which may have caused this?
I am asking this, because I saw a thread about the visual composer, which seems to cause some issues right now.
Of course my Homepage is built with it. So maybe these gaps have been caused by the composer?
Best regards
Torsten

Hey all, just wondering, are there any plans to make NewsMag more versatile say using a 6 column grid or a 12 column grid?? That way any combination of doing either three columns, two columns, six columns, four columns etc layout would be possible. That’s the one major flaw for this theme, the 3col base grid set up which means majority of the layouts that come standard with visual composer aren’t even applicable. I hope though that somewhere on the horizon you guys will make the base grid one that’s more versatile (ideally a 12 column grid as that is divisible in multiple ways and will still allow NewsMag to look and function as it does right now).
Am I the only one hoping for this change?
I personally would rather not have the SEO stuff tied to the theme, as I’ve changed themes all over the place the past 10 years using WordPress, and there is no guarantee a theme will be updated for new SEO tech/requirements. With YOAST SEO, they now have a business model to sell premium versions and also sell the Google News plugin (which I use with 20 site license). I can swap themes if need be, without losing settings or foobar the sitemap.
Adding additional functions might be nice for the native system, but as long as there is an option to disable it all, I’d be fine with that.
The old Yoast was merely a collection of things we used to do with functions.php frankly, and custom headers. But now, it’s evolved quite well and works well “most of the time.” But it’s kind of like saying “why not build in Visual Composer features and stop using that plugin” … well, a whole separate dev team work on that, and they make money on each license, so it continues to evolve.
I’ve used themes in past that tried to do it all, and they end up being neglected, one month delay to fix something simple, etc.
SO, for me, I’d rather let Radu and folk make sure the theme functions with WordPress properly, supports a wide variety of WP standards, and then leave the “extensions” to others. Just my thought.
I used to build my own themes, and it’s a pain in the arse (hence how I ended up here).
But as many have said, this a forum, so discussion and exchange of ideas is all good. 🙂
(and how about browser and forum designers turning off freakin’ auto correct … changing build to built… it’s not possible for me to mis-type a b next to a t on the keyboard! Argh!)

🙂
try installing just the
Newspaper-tf/plugins/js_composer.zip
or, what works best is to unzip that folder, then FTP the entire folder to
/yoursite/wp-content/plugins/js_composer
If you’re trying to use the Envato tools plugin, punch yourself right now and stop (kidding). That has never worked right for us anywhere, anytime, even in an eggnog fueled dream haze (also kidding). 🙂
Also note you need to turn off any caching and CDN shenanigans before installing plugins, and you also need to fully eradicate any pre-existing js_composer folder, and *not* upload over the existing folder.
Maybe that helps somebody…. again, this is WordPress 101 folks.
Sorry if I sound like a crank. Worked most of the holiday and starting to sound like a bozo, I suppose.
Chris, I agree, I would pay $20 to TagDiv to install Visual Composer, since it is proving to be the thorn in many sides.
As for blame, it is not a blame game, it is more of a “can we get this fixed please”.
BTW thank you for your advice that states “You don’t install plugins by uploading the entire theme, fyi”, maybe this something that should be said so you are aware, unless your point is that they made it and I missed it.
In any case I wait for their assistance for your matter.
Have a nice evening : )
TagDiv should probably start offering a $20 install option for those who are unable to properly install Visual Composer.
Excellent! Thanks for your time and help.
1.- Thanks, on my opinion it’s definitely more useful than have the option to show or not by category the Big Grid.
4.- It is weird. I used “Regenerate Thumbnails” plugin but it didn’t work on my site. I will try with the two other plugins suggested on the article.
5.- Incredible, thanks! Now, could it be possible to add “$td_mod_single” somewhere to the line of code? Because now is missing my custom font for Post elements – Date.
6.1.- “display: none” did’t work. For the homepage I added the extra class to text sidebar widget using Visual Composer, and then add the custom code to Advance CSS – iPad Portrait, but it seems VC is not adding the class to the widget. For the other pages (posts) I use a text widget adding <div class=”class123″> and it works, but the title of the widget continues to appear.
6.2.- Same result as in 6.1: using VC doesn’t work, and using “div class” it does but the widget title is not considered on the class.
–> Is there a way to use Smart Sidebar when Slider is on the same page? Or use other slider (Rev Slider, RokGallery, etc.) could be better?
(the site is accesible again on dev.elguillatun.cl)

Felipe Z.
Hi,
Please make sure you update your the to the latest version(4.6.1) and also update the Visual Composer(4.3.5), it’s included into the theme files inside the /plugins folder: https://forum.tagdiv.com/update-the-visual-composer-plugin-wpbakery/
If you still have this issues please check this without any plugins active and let me know how it goes.
Thanks
Hi,
I have checked your site and noticed this js errors in your console which can cause this as the mobile menu works based on js: http://screencast.com/t/bxcc6028AbuB
Please try to check this without any other plugins active lave just the Visual Composer plugin active, empty cache and also purge files if you use any CDN host services and check again. Enable plugins one by one afterwards to find the one that is causing this issues.
Please let me know!
Thanks
At the moment the Newspaper Template has 3 Custom ad spots. Is it possible to create more?
If that is very complicated I am currently using AdRotate Plugin aswell.
How would I be able to add my AdRotate ads in the visual composer?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Dear tagDiv-team,
I’m afraid I still can’t get visual composer to work. When I try to activate it it keeps loading but that’s it. I had a fresh WP 4.1 installation and followd the guide from Chris. I’d really appreciate some help so that I can get my site started.
Thank you very much in advance,
Kai
Hi,
To turn off the minification or to purge file or empty cache you first need to use a cache plugin or a CDN host service.
Info about caching plugins/CDN: http://code.tutsplus.com/tutorials/wordpress-caching-plugins–wp-26445
If you aren’t aware of using any of this plugins then just go to your plugins section select them all except “WPBakery Visual Composer” plugin then deactivate them.
Check for the issue again after doing this and if is still happening please give us wp-access so we can also check this and send login details via email at contact@tagdiv.com and also provide an URL to this topic or specify your issues details.
If you don’t get this issue after this you can enable them one by one to see which one is causing this and search for an alternative or not use it at all.
Thanks
