Having the same issue just updated theme and installed the VC via the plugin and VC has vanished? Homepage is now broken?
I update today to Newspaper Version 3.8.1 and update the 2 plugins via FTP to.
Now the visual composer addon did not work. At my front page i get [vc_row][vc_column width="1/1"]…. and when i try to edit my home page in backend the visual composer did not work. only default editor.
Can you give me some hint what is going wrong.
thanks
Thanks Marius
Hi,
We will update the theme ASAP and will have the visual composer updated to.
Thanks for the message!
Hello all,
We are providing full support for the theme and we are trying to provide the latest version of the pagebuilder plugin.
We just switched to the a newer version of visual composer (when wp 3.9 came out) and from now on we can provide a newer version of the plugin easily. Before it was not possible because we used a custom built visual composer.
I will set up a system here so we can push the latest version of visual composer faster… sorry for the delay but it’s something new to us and I forgot to monitor that plugin 😐 .
Radu O.
Use common sense: I’m not saying go someplace else if you don’t understand how the plugins and licensing and bundling work, I’m saying if you’re unhappy with the great support here, including from many other folk who chip in ideas and personal experiences, then yes, please leave vs complaining “not much support around here.”
But let me explain to you how the plugins, licensing and such work, since you may be new to this; I’ve been using WordPress since Jan 2006, and have run across this issue many many times:
1) you get a licensed version of the plugin, which used to be “embedded” into the code so you wouldn’t need to deal with licensing or anything as it was a licensed product by theme developer. And yes, sometimes there was a “stuck” note in WP upgrade saying “one upgrade available.”
2) NOW with last theme upgrades, you get a separate copy, *tested compatible with theme*, but as a stand alone plugin to minimize issues with WordPress updates which broke the plugin last time (WP 3.9) – not the theme dev fault in any way.
The version is included as tested for the theme, and is updated when the theme is updated not when the plugin is updated.
They have updated the plugin code for Visual Composer many many times since October last year if you look at the change log ?
3) the notice about a “new version” is managed by WordPress – not the theme. This doesn’t mean the new version works with the theme, and it’s not the bundled version — meaning a new version of the *commercial version* – NOT included with theme – is available.
4) So, you may see note to upgrade to new version of a plugin, which is not the latest version BUNDLED with the theme. You may be able to install a new version IF YOU HAVE A SEPARATE LICENSE, but there’s no guarantee it will work with the theme, and then putting in support tickets about it won’t yet be relevant to THIS THEME.
Please don’t bash the folks here for “not much support around here” as they try very hard to give folks support, especially when about 50% of the issues are the user, plugins, server mis-config, etc. — just ONE support incident to fix somebody’s server setup is worth the cost of this theme. JUst sayin. You’re welcome to say what you want, as am I.
Most complex theme developers use some kind of “framework” or have now chosen to use Visual Composer as it’s less time consuming, and many devs are now familiar with it cross platform.
And yes, unless you built you own theme, there is no guarantee any theme or plugin will remain compatible with future versions of WordPress, like 4.0.
Seemed like you folks were complaining about something which is self evident for experienced users of WordPress, then bashing lack of support here. Two staff members do wonderful work trying to support so many issues with the theme, when many of them are custom programming not included with theme, solving wordpress/server problems. They tend to prioritize real issues, and not these kinds of non-issues which should already be well known for experienced WP users like yourself.
Cheers! Sorry for any upset.
Don’t need a lesson on “how to” install things Chris. I learned how to do that pretty well back in 2007. More worried about security issues and breaches at the plugin level, which is usually one of the reasons “plugin authors” update their code, to address bugs, security threats, or to accommodate core WP updates.
And, I am using 4.1.2 already, as I just re-downloaded the theme yesterday.
Plus, I tried using this theme before on a client several months back, and they were having the same issue back then. Always an alert, but no way to fix it. So I pulled it down.
My question this time around is – are THEY (the theme designers) going to keep upgrading the “plugin” that goes with the theme to eradicate the alert? Or do I need to go buy the plugin from code canyon, and make the plugin, theme compatible myself??
If not, that is fine, but I would just like to know.
Personally, I hate these stupid “drag and drop” builders as they don’t translate well “theme to theme” and if WP Bakery or TagDiv guys quit providing support tomorrow, everyone one of the sites using it, would be exposed to potential threats and out dated code. I realize why they do it, to appeal to WP newbies and non-coders, but I prefer using the text editor, and stuff that can translate from theme to theme without a hiccup.
Chances are the update is not significant at this point, but I still don’t like having “out dated” files or improper coding anywhere on my sites. Even with a firewall in place.
Would be nice to hear from the actual THEME AUTHORS on this situation.
@Christopher what’s your problem man,why you have to be so rude about “go somewhere else” i bought this theme just like every one else and if something is not working then i have all right to talk about it,and right now in my admin panel they showing me to update that plugin so you telling me i should ignore it and go buy another theme, something wrong with you then.kmt
Simply use the latest “tested” version included with the theme. The commercial version is separate product and you would need your own license, and it’s not tested to work with the theme; the version included with theme is tested to work with the theme and is included in cost of the theme.
@Steven – lots of great support here, way more is given to the average user than the paltry fee charged for the theme. Don’t like it, go someplace else please.
How to install theme:
https://forum.tagdiv.com/installation/
To update to current version, simply remove the plugin (old) from your pre 3.7 version; then in the folder from Themeforest
Newspaper-tf/Newspaper/includes/plugins/js_composer.zip
decompress the zip file, and upload to your website/wp-content/plugins/ folder. This will give you version 22.04.2014 – ver 4.1.2
Not that hard.
I’m still waiting as well how to update mine, there is not much support around here and we are pay users for this theme,it’s not like we get the theme for FREE are something.
The alert is telling me to update the plugin, but it says go to “code canyon” for the new release? Was it not part of theme? Can someone let me know how to access the updated plugin, without having to purchase again at code canyon? Do we have to wait for theme authors to update it, and release it.
i can’t update my Visual Composer they saying Invalid License key when i bought this theme it came with it now there is a update and it will not let me update it,please tell me what i need to do..
+1 for the problem.

Anyone else having trouble with the visual composer after the update to WP 3.9.1 with the above mentioned htaccess settings? It seems to be a problem in the compression code:
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{HTTP:Accept-Encoding} .*gzip.*
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME}.gz -f
RewriteRule (.*)\.html$ $1\.html.gz [L]
RewriteRule (.*)\.htm$ $1\.htm.gz [L]

ExpiresDefault A1209600
ExpiresByType text/javascript A300
ExpiresByType text/css A300
ExpiresByType image/gif A300
After I remove these lines it works perfectly again. But also brings my pagespeed score from 96 to 34 :/:/:/ wtf:(
Anyone a tip? Thanks in advance!
Hi there,
I have set up my site on my local server and had everything working perfectly. I then migrated several times with different methods but each time I have the same broken theme which is currently live: http://coconutoilpost.com
I have gone back to my development site and deactivated all the plugins which then broke mainly the home page. I then worked through and found the issue with your integration with WPBakery Visual Composer, all other plugins work on the development site. The issue was the same with wp 3.9 and with 3.9.1 – Theme version 3.8 – Media Bakery 4.1.2
The issues are:
1. When logged in the front page admin bar not showing
2. Drop down mega menu not working
3. Search bar not working
4. Bottom page related articles pop up not working.
5. Back forward navigation not working.
6. Category Background images not working.
Here we are with the error messages with All plugins turned off:

Hi,
Dismiss those plugins if you don’t need them, the only need is the Visual Composer. From v 3.7 we have removed from the theme and now is external as a plugin.
Thanks for the message!
Hi,
I’ve sent you a screenshot showing you that for me works fine http://screencast.com/t/WXyVNEy1i, why for you nothing works? Please disable all plugins and let only the Visual composer + that plugin and see if works.
I’ve checked that plugin and works fine, no broken layout.
Thanks!
I just recently updated the plugin. I now noticed that there is a list of plugins that you recommend installing. Is this the Newspaper theme recommending it or the WordPress platform? They are:
Animated GIF Resize – I don’t use this and the .gif still animates at the featured image. Is that what it is mainly used for?
Contact Form 7 – I don’t need this but its a common one to install.
Jetpack – This supposedly is a great plugin but heard it slows a lot down. The only reason I would see using this is statistics and the photon feature. Thoughts?
Revolution Slider – I still have your slide in place. What more would this do?
tagDiv Social Counter – I use the WP Socializer plugin. I assume this does the same thing though?
WpBaker Visual Composer – (Activated) Is this the Theme Panel now?
tagDiv Speed Booster – (Activated) Self explanatory I imagine.
Just curious!
hi,
we are sorry but we cannot offer support for code that are not develop by our theme. with visual composer is different as we have integrated it very well into the theme.
take a look how modules are registered in visual composer : http://screencast.com/t/v8T8KKzDI2 , maybe it will help.
Thanks for you message.

I have bought the iHover plugin but it asks me to purchase the visual composer to let me activate it. The visual composer works properly but the plugin doesnt´ detect it.
Can you help me?
Hi.
The only thing that I changed was to update your theme and installing the ‘WPBakery Visual Composer’ that you have requested. This plugin is the reason for ‘Infinite Load’ stopped working. I already test all the plugins.
How do I fix it ?
Regards
Hi,
it is not about the visual composer it is about the build in visual editor in wordpress. The html editor works but not the wysiwyg.
Best
Hi,
@cooldude when the WordPress doesn’t crop the images, that is from a plugin conflict(you can disable all plugins and make a test and see if images are copped) or missed GD library installed on your server.
You have large images, I’ve checked your site, all your images are not cropped.
Please make sure you have latest version WP + Theme 3.8 and make sure you install the Visual composer, all steps here: https://forum.tagdiv.com/newspaper-v-3-7/
Please check if you have GD library installed http://www.zoopable.com/check-php-gd-library-installed-or-not/
Thanks!
Yeah, because the Visual Composer went from being a built-in feature to a packaged plugin I figured that might happen. Glad you got it sorted and please do let me know how it works. Cheers.
