Hello,
In order to make a theme update hassle free, you should first know what the new update brings most important. If you update to newspaper 8, please note there is a new page builder that will activate automatically and it will create layout issues together with visual composer. You have been usign VC up to this point so now you have a choice.
1. Either continue using VC
2. switch to the new page builder and re-create your pages with it from scratch as it is a must
visual composer will still receive updates but we will not be adding any new elements to it from now on. We will develop our theme based on the tagdiv composer.
Only use 1 page builder though and disable the other no matter the choice made.

Sorry for the delay, we do not work on weekends.
We know of 3 possible causes for this issue.
1) The wp super cache setting to cache page. Please only use these settings in wp super cache: https://forum.tagdiv.com/cache-plugin-install-and-configure/
If you use any other cache plugin, make sure you do not cache pages for known users or for logged in users depending on the plugin setting.

3) Editing a page that was previously built with another page builder.
You need to edit the page with the builder it was initially created with. Do not edit a page with tagdiv composer if it was not originally built with it. If you created your page in visual composer and then switched to our own page builder, you will have to re-create that page
Please test this on a brand new page with no existing content.

Sorry but I cannot access your site. Please disable the tagdiv composer plugin if you use visual composer. Layout issues usually happen when using 2 page builder at once.

Visual composer works as expected on our end with the new or with the old version. THe WP update has nothing to do with the issue itself. It could be a plugin that is not compatible with the new version of wp so please disable all plugins except the page builder, clear cache and reset cdn files if you use it. Please also check any custom code you might have added to the theme panel or the theme files. If you use a child theme, please switch to the main theme to make sure it does not affect the proper functionality of the theme.

What’s the clearest, simplest guide to update Newspaper?
(or better yet, what do I need to do to update?)
I have Newspaper v7.4 (at least according to my Welcome page in WordPress.
Though when I look at my downloads page it says Newspaper 8.
Meanwhile, I got two different emails:
1. [CodeCanyon] Update available for ‘Visual Composer: Page Builder for WordPress’
2. [ThemeForest] Update available for ‘Newspaper’
Normally, I would just click stuff and try to follow, but last time I did, it messed up my site for a while — apparently there was some dependency on the Visual Composer — yet there was some agreement between Newspaper and Visual Composer licenses, and upgrading one outside the other caused problems (and was confusing.)
This first mail looks like it tells me to update Visual Composer to v5.4:
” Hi jdmeier,
We’d like to let you know that an update to your item Visual Composer: Page Builder for WordPress by wpbakery is now available in your Downloads page.”
The second mail looks like it tells me to update Newspaper to v8:
” Hi jdmeier,
We’d like to let you know that an update to your item Newspaper by tagDiv is now available in your Downloads page.
Remember: you need to be logged in to download the update.”
How do I do this hassle free, and how do I avoid breaking stuff between Visual Composer and Newspaper?
I care a lot because I’ve run Newspaper on multiple sites for what surprisingly might be a couple years now already.

I am having trouble with background colors in rows. Every time I add background color in a row, it ends up opaque. The changes do not happen and if I click on “save”, the button is rotated infinitely and you need to refresh the page. After updating, it appears error, like the one below:

So I got problem that resizing images didn’t work for me.
Hello, I saw that WPBakery plugin installed to my page. Do I have to buy a license for it to build pages with it or it is just the part of newspaper? It installed when I add js_composer plugin in my wordpress administrator panel. I asked because some options didn’t work for me, e.g. when I add single image I set size of it to thumbnail or 100×100 and nothing changed on page. I want to be sure that it will be working when I buy license.
I stopped using Tagdiv composer awhile ago and so just now tried to create a page with Tagdiv composer.
After adding a column text module (with or without title) and editing that editing the content I end up with a WP Editor the content of which is divided in two parts.
The top part is for my text/content and it’s 1/4 the size of the editing box. The remaining 3/4, I’ve no clue what it’s for. A p shows up in it after making a selection in the top 1/4 portion.
I see the marker on the right to resize the windows (top and bottom) but it doesn’t work. So I’m stuck with this tiny space for my text.
I don’t recall things being like this the last time I fiddled with Tagdiv Composer.
Have you considered using Tagdiv Composer instead? It’s so much better than the Visual Composer crapware.

It happens with the previous and the current version, released with the latest version of Newspaper (8.2). If I desactivate Speed Booster, the problem persists. I think it’s not a problem with this plugin.
On some parts of the website I think it’s problem of the custom css, because first loads the original version and after a second it loads the custom one.
About the strange effect at loading the homepage, it happens on mobile and desktop, and I observed that first all the site is loaded boxed, and after a second it turns to full width.
As a conclusion, I think the problems are two:
1. The custom CSS
2. Plugin visual composer that loads boxed first, and then turns to full width
If I move the custom css to the theme original file, after updating the theme I will lose all the changes, because there is no child theme. Or am I wrong?
About the problem with visual composer that first loads boxed content, I don’t know how to solve it.
