Hi,

I’d like to add a custom button just beside the search button(I’m using Newspaper Black edition) How can I customize? Currently I’m editing in my child theme the file header-menu-h1.php

this is my code

<div id="td-header-menu" role="navigation">
<div id="td-top-mobile-toggle"><i class="td-icon-font td-icon-mobile"></i></div>
<div class="td-main-menu-logo td-logo-in-menu">
<?php
if (td_util::get_option('tds_logo_menu_upload') == '') {
locate_template('parts/header/logo-h1.php', true, false);
} else {
locate_template('parts/header/logo-mobile-h1.php', true, false);
}?>
</div>
<?php
wp_nav_menu(array(
'theme_location' => 'header-menu',
'menu_class'=> 'sf-menu',
'fallback_cb' => 'td_wp_page_menu',
'walker' => new td_tagdiv_walker_nav_menu()
));

//if no menu
function td_wp_page_menu() {
//this is the default menu
echo '<ul class="sf-menu">';
echo '<li class="menu-item-first">Click here - to select or create a menu';
echo '';
}
?>
</div>

<div class="">
<?php $posts = get_posts('orderby=rand&numberposts=5'); foreach($posts as $post) { ?>
" title="<?php the_title(); ?>"><i class="fa fa-random" aria-hidden="true"></i>
<?php } ?>
</div>

<div class="td-search-wrapper">
<div id="td-top-search">
<!-- Search -->
<div class="header-search-wrap">
<div class="dropdown header-search">
<i class="td-icon-search"></i>
<i class="td-icon-search"></i>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>

<div class="header-search-wrap">
<div class="dropdown header-search">
<div class="td-drop-down-search" aria-labelledby="td-header-search-button">
<form method="get" class="td-search-form" action="<?php echo esc_url(home_url( '/' )); ?>">
<div role="search" class="td-head-form-search-wrap">
<input id="td-header-search" type="text" value="<?php echo get_search_query(); ?>" name="s" autocomplete="off" /><input class="wpb_button wpb_btn-inverse btn" type="submit" id="td-header-search-top" value="<?php _etd('Search', TD_THEME_NAME)?>" />
</div>
</form>
<div id="td-aj-search"></div>
</div>
</div>
</div>

Notice the div before td-search-wrapper div class.

I’m trying to add a random article button beside the search button. But my template is broken after I add a class to the div like this: “td-random-article-wrapper” should I register that class first? I can’t seem to find the documentation for templates?

Thanks

Hi,

1- Is it possible to keep the global theme setting for the smart sidebar deactivated and override it for a particular page? If so – please do let me know how to go about doing this.

2 – I have 3,000 odd articles and about 500 odd categories under which these articles are categorized. Is there some A – Z listing plugin or something that I can use to show these categories and Sub-categories on the Article Archives page?

Regards,
Nigel

Hello,

So there is the option to remove post date on articles.

Is there a code to make the date disappear on all articles besides articles from a specific category? For example, I want the dates of all articles removed except those articles under “Tutorials” category.

I have multiple FB and Twitter accounts associated with my blog. I would like my readers to be able to choose which account to follow. I know that the Social Media Counter plugin does not accommodate multiple Twitter or FB accounts.

I thought maybe I would hire a developer to clone the social media counter plugin so I could use it as multiple plugins, one for each account. For example:

Social-Media-Counter-1 would be associated with Twitter Account 1 and shown as a Widget in Category 1.
Social-Media-Counter-2 would be associated with Twitter Account 2 and shown as a Widget in Category 2.

Before I spend the time and money I wanted to get your opinion on whether or not this feasible and makes sense.

Hello,
These are just a few warnings. The first is because of the ‘0px’ if it;s 0 you can remove the px as it;s not needed anymore but it will not influence the code itself.
The border-radius maybe needs a size in pixels and not in % you can try to add 20px for example or find a value that works in pixels.
The third you can do nothjing about as it’s a “use of important” warning. This is a waning as the important tag is only meant to be used as a ‘last measure’ so to speak. You can try the code without important.
Thank you!

Hello,

The page-level ad needs a custom implementation as this topic suggests: https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/page-level-ads-problems/ however if you use the mobile theme you need to implement it in the mobile header.php as it;s a different file. We have not tested the page-level ads with our theme so I cannot say for sure they will actually work in the mobile theme. This fluctuation you mention could be the result of another issue that affects wp super cache and the latest version of wordpress: https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/mobile-theme-does-not-work-properly/
Pleas provide an example of what type of ad is in the article inline ad spot and provide a link to your site so we can inspect it.
Thank you!

I am wanting to recreate the the large logo area (Theme Panel – Style 10 – full logo on top + centre menu) as seen in this demo:

http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper_cars/

I have tried to configure the setting to emulate this example on a fresh install of WordPress but it doesn’t seem to allow for the same scale as in the demo?? Failing to see where i am going wrong so if anyone has a solution to this issue it would be very much appreciated.

Hello Chandan Kumar Singh,

Do you mean that you want to reproduce the similar layout of this example using our theme for your website? Please notice that this type of request involves some custom work until finished it and we cannot provide this service at the moment, sorry! Before beginning your process, please try to read all our documentation to get familiar with it and then you will have to try to implement yourself all of these customizations. So, if you are not aware of the steps which are needed to take in this regard, please consider hiring a freelancer/developer to help you!

Thanks for your understanding!

Hello PURE_Vengeance,

First of all, I will thank you for your interest in our theme. Before doing your project, I suggest you reading all our documentation. You will have to get familiar with all of theme’s settings regarding on Videos and then you will be able to implement and applies all of them in your website. As an example, you can try to use the Video News demo, like this -> http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper_video/ For more information about our video and review settings, please check here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/video-playlist-2/ -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/reviews-2/

Hope this helps!

Thanks for your understanding!

Hello,

I have inspected your site and the ad code seems to be rendered by the theme properly. This however depends on the ad itself. Our theme works with the default adsense ad. If yours is a page-level ad for example, it will need a different implementation: https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/page-level-ads-problems/
If it;s a standard adsense code and if it;s a new account, the ad could take up to a few days before the ad is displayed as google’s crawler needs a bit of time to do it’s magic.

Thank you!

The “related articles” are sorted by date, and sort by name tag?

For example, if an article I put the tags: Music, Videos, Review.
I wish related articles appear in this order: first all the items of the tag “Music”, then “Review” and finally “Videos”.

Hello Rosquill,

Our icons are created using a content code as you ca see here -> http://screencast.com/t/ZyhiLVxMsT Before achieving best results, please notice that you should have loaded yet the font of your icons to bring some results to the front end. You will have to try to find some plugins which have this functionality and see which are proper with the theme and then, using the specified class you can target it. (An an example you can try the Font Awesome) Please notice that this task involve custom work and if you are not aware of the steps in this regard, please consider hiring a freelancer/developer to help you because we cannot provide custom work at the moment, sorry!

Please notice that it is not enough to only activate the Child Theme. So, all the modifications have to be made in The Child theme if you want to not lose them in next updates. After doing this, please consult the documentation for Child Theme because there you will find what type of files can be added in the Child theme and what not. Please check here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/the-child-theme-support-tutorial/

Thanks for your understanding!

Hi

Google does not have a problem with theme’s ad system or with page’s structure generated by the theme, here is the prove:
– I’ve made a test on a blank page using the ad-sense code that you send it on our email address and google deliver only blank ads: http://screencast.com/t/JKad2GXfnR – http://screencast.com/t/4tbsYsmdLE I’ve also made a test with the keys from the ad code that you pasted here on the forum and I’ve got the same result: http://screencast.com/t/HRnsGXRGo49d – http://screencast.com/t/pqEatF7Fyzc1
– I’ve made the same test using the keys from one of our ad-sense ads and google deliver content for them: http://screencast.com/t/ezr4L0UGVnQ – http://screencast.com/t/Us0Y7jXHnTEJ

From these screen can be seen that I’ve changed only data-ad-slot and data-ad-client keys, rest of the cede is the same. Also in my example I’ve used a simple page, not theme’s ad system and google still don’t deliver content for your keys.
Thanks!

Hello,
We do not recommend using visual composer on posts. The example you mention is a page, not a post.
It can be done if you want to, but keep in mind that this is not tested and could provide mixed results. You can activate VC on posts from the plugin settings like so:
http://screencast.com/t/0KggIdVDZ

Thank you!

Hello,

Please only use the youtube URL in the right side in the featured video section, not the emebed code: the word embed must not be here: http://screencast.com/t/lLTqCZhB3 Please use this guide: https://forum.tagdiv.com/featured-image-or-video/
For example: http://screencast.com/t/Pgg6rDolHGz

Hello nycinsider,

First of all, I will thank you for your interests in our items. Regarding on your above example, please notice that this documentation refers to speed optimization and there you will find some steps which you have to follow in order to achieve. As you can see, this type of tutorials refers to only advanced users. As a hint, if you want to use that snippet of the code regarding on images optimization you should add it to the bottom of functions.php core file. Please keep in mind that all the functions have to be put there.
Unfortunately, we cannot provide this type of services at the moment and if you need to make some optimizations and if you are not aware of the steps in this regard, please consider hiring a freelancer/developer to help you.

Thanks for your understanding!

Hi

You can use category’s name as a css class to set a specific background for one category, the code will look like in this example:

.category-"cat-name" .td-category-header .td-container {
background-image: url("image-url");
}

Thanks!

Catalin

Hello wordnow,

In this case, please try to use the Text with Title + Video Player element from Visual Composer if you want that your title to be underlined and that it have the same style as in this example -> http://screencast.com/t/dQjOuRLc -> http://screencast.com/t/FJZHOBKpsilm For better results, then you should use a bit of CSS to remove some padding bottom and the result you should see here -> http://screencast.com/t/kZKdL9dv8

The code is ->

.td_block_text_with_title {
padding-bottom: 0;
}

Hope this helps!

Thanks for your understanding!

I have several Twitter and FB accounts associated with my blog. Each Twitter and FB account is associated with certain blog categories. Looking for a way to use the Stay Connected social media with more than one Twitter account and more than on FB account.

For example,

Readers interested in Colorado follow our Colorado Twitter account by using the Twitter button on Colorado postings.
Readers interested in California follow our California Twitter account by using the Twitter button on California postings.

Hope this makes sense and any suggestions are appreciated.

Hi, sorry if my reply sounded mean 🙂

Critical CSS is the “needed CSS” to render the above the fold content. Which might only be 20% of the CSS loaded for entire page, but when loaded inline with every page the page itself is a little bigger, but the browser doesn’t need to wait for ANY of the css and js files. This is the only way I’ve found to fully eliminate the “render blocking” message from Pagespeed Insights.

While the SpeedBooster plugin does pretty good job of moving stuff to footer (and I presume you know how to look at your page source to see if that actually happened, and WHAT is being loaded in the header), as I stated in many cases with WP, you cannot just move everything to the footer as then nothing actually loads until you get there.

TagDiv are doing a “sort of” version of this by front loading some of the CSS, and then moving the stuff to footer; but if you still get the message then it means this “scheme” didn’t quite work, and not really their fault — it will NOT work for everyone; even if they can do it with some (ahem, not all) of their demos.

Go test their demo post for example, see what happens 😉

So, the trick is to use a custom css “critical css generator” that scans your post and then figure out WHAT needs to load first “critical” in the sense it’s needed to load the page BEFORE all the css/js crap in the footer.

For this example “critical” would be defined as :

critical
· adj.
having a decisive importance in the success or failure of something.

So … TagDiv might want to — and will — weigh in as part of their lovely support effort, but you should concentrate on ALL OTHER pagespeed elements, and leave that one thing for last. Or it will drive you insane until you just learn how to get the “critical CSS’ added to the header.php file right above the body tag. Seriously. Been there. 🙂

Following here:
https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-make-the-site-faster/

Have moved lots of CSS to footer in td-speed-booster.php

Examples:

/**
* here we move the css
*/
function css_mover() {
if ($this->td_theme_name == 'Newspaper') {
// wp 011 - Newspaper 6

$this->move_style_to_footer_queue('google_font_open_sans');
$this->move_style_to_footer_queue('google_font_roboto');
$this->move_style_to_footer_queue('bbp-default-bbpress'); //bbpress old
$this->move_style_to_footer_queue('bbp-default'); // bbpress
$this->move_style_to_footer_queue('contact-form-7'); // end of initial list, rest custom
$this->move_style_to_footer_queue('gd-captcha-style');
$this->move_style_to_footer_queue('geodir-core-scss');
$this->move_style_to_footer_queue('font-awesome');
$this->move_style_to_footer_queue('geodir-event-frontend-style');
$this->move_style_to_footer_queue('location_manager_css');
$this->move_style_to_footer_queue('social-widget');
$this->move_style_to_footer_queue('woocommerce-layout');
$this->move_style_to_footer_queue('woocommerce-general');
$this->move_style_to_footer_queue('td-theme');

But Google is still listing all these resources under the Page Speed error (Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content).

I’ve cleared the cache and checked several times. Nothing. What am I doing wrong?
