What’s the clearest, simplest guide to update Newspaper?
(or better yet, what do I need to do to update?)

I have Newspaper v7.4 (at least according to my Welcome page in WordPress.
Though when I look at my downloads page it says Newspaper 8.

Meanwhile, I got two different emails:
1. [CodeCanyon] Update available for ‘Visual Composer: Page Builder for WordPress’
2. [ThemeForest] Update available for ‘Newspaper’

Normally, I would just click stuff and try to follow, but last time I did, it messed up my site for a while — apparently there was some dependency on the Visual Composer — yet there was some agreement between Newspaper and Visual Composer licenses, and upgrading one outside the other caused problems (and was confusing.)

This first mail looks like it tells me to update Visual Composer to v5.4:
” Hi jdmeier,
We’d like to let you know that an update to your item Visual Composer: Page Builder for WordPress by wpbakery is now available in your Downloads page.”

The second mail looks like it tells me to update Newspaper to v8:
” Hi jdmeier,
We’d like to let you know that an update to your item Newspaper by tagDiv is now available in your Downloads page.
Remember: you need to be logged in to download the update.”

How do I do this hassle free, and how do I avoid breaking stuff between Visual Composer and Newspaper?
I care a lot because I’ve run Newspaper on multiple sites for what surprisingly might be a couple years now already.

Theme doesn’t insert ads in your site, you do when you setup ad networks. Those ads are served from other servers which “place content on your site” to load the ads; those elements for the ads load from other servers and have tracking (they are ‘ads’). Try optimizing your pagespeed/speed with *no* ad networks running.

Also, anything loading from external sources, such as ‘how many likes’ etc. are loaded from external servers and slow down your site.

For best speed, you need to disable ANYTHING being loaded from external locations: ads, gravatars (use a local image plugin for author photos), likes/shares counting, weather app, jetpack, etc. — then look at your site speed/optimization.

Turn things back on, check impact, decide if you want to keep them.

Welcome to WordPress! 🙂

Hello,

Please try to use this method of implementation: https://forum.tagdiv.com/using-other-ads-non-adsense-ads/
Add your adroate code between the div tags.

Hi

I have bought one license for Newspaper –

– 25 Sep 2017 REGULAR LICENSE

I have had an email (17/11/17) telling me that there is an update for it, but, a) it doesn’t show in my WordPress dashboard as updates tend to do for other themes despite registering the product and b) there is nothing new in my Downloads area on Themeforest/Envato Market either. So, where do I find the update? I admit to being a little confused.

Love the product though

Best wishes
Ruth

They did do a Yoast SEO plugin update today, so you might retry that.

@nicobros
— It’s not TagDiv’s responsibility to fix issues with other plugins, obviously. If the meta data is on your page, then that’s what Google reads. Theme doesn’t “stop Google” from reading your content. If it’s there, it’s there. Duh.

We’re not having any issues with our sites.

Of course, Google routinely has problems — today (11/15/17) they are not pulling in posts via Feedburner and auto-posting to Twitter from any of our sites. That isn’t theme related either, but issue with Google/Feedburner.

Hello,
I am using Newspaper 8 – love it! – and I would like to insert page level ads by google, which needs to be placed in the head-tag. How do I have to do this? Or is there any other solution for these specific ad type?

Hello,
I am trying to add an ad code into the sidebar but for some reason, the ad is all the way down of the website. Adsense ad is fine it’s just other network ad.

Thank you

Hello,

It seems you are not using the correct implementation for custom ads. Please use this method: https://forum.tagdiv.com/using-other-ads-non-adsense-ads/

Hi, I have a strange issue with Newspaper theme – when I use WPBakery page builder on blog posts, the layout breaks and the part of the post built with the builder looks like ‘full width’ even with sidebar layouts. It looks like that:

http://geckopress.codingmom.com/list-standalone-mysteries-cait-time-bookstore/
In this case, smart list post layout was used.

This one here – just a row and a text block in it:
http://geckopress.codingmom.com/halloween-gecko-press-whos-afraid-big-bad-wolf/

This one here: just a try to use the two-column layout in the builder, which is a disaster:
http://geckopress.codingmom.com/curiously-good-contests/

On this full-width page I have another issue – when I try to use the 4-column layout in the builder, the page breaks and each block becomes 100% width, so I end up with one long column of images.

Currently, 3 column layout used and it works:
http://geckopress.codingmom.com/play/

I have used WPBakery builder with other themes on many occasions and have never had issues like that – it usually is quite good at fitting things into any page and responsive. So I am at a complete loss.

I tried to deactivate all 3rd party plugins, but it didn’t help, so it’s definitely not a plugin conflict story.

I have the latest versions of WordPress and Newspaper installed.

And finally, I bought the license for Newspaper for my work project in October this year, but can not either register on the forum with the purchase code or add the code to my account – the system says the code is used with some other account.

So I am writing using my personal account that says that support for my item expired. However, I do have a valid for support theme and the purchase code for the site with issues described above.

Any help would be priceless!

Hi, i have Yoast Seo. I enabled Open Graph. When i copy the url of an article on facebook, the title is the url of my site and the image is the site image. I want the article title and the article image. i disabled the plugin “Head, Footer and Post Injections” because it was in conflict with yoast seo, but no changes.
On facebook developers i debugged the article url but:
-The “og: image” property should be explicitly provided, even if you can infer a value from other tags.
-The following properties are missing: og: url, og: type, og: title, og: image, og: description, fb: app_id
-URL returned a bad HTTP response code.

Open Graph properties:
og:url http://www.latrexentaonline.it/index.php/2017/11/12/barrali-arrivo-oltre-mille-ragazzi-raduno-pastorale-giovanile/
og:title http://www.latrexentaonline.it
og:description
og:image http://www.latrexentaonline.it/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/ElizabethandRichard-copia.png

Hi,

Sometimes the site loads the mobile layout on large screens (15, 17, 22 inch). And not all pages, but some. For example, today it is loading single post pages in mobile layout and all other pages normally, but yesterday it was loading category pages in mobile layout on large screens and single post pages normally.
What could be the problem?

Thanks

There are no such H3 rules like that in actuality. It’s normal practice to use H3 for section heads in posts, and on news indexes for the headline to identify it as more important than paragraph text, but not as important as page level h1 title and h2 supplemental (section) heads. If you look at actual information from Google, whomever told you that there are ‘too many h3’ tags on a page is bad, is incorrect. This is normal for an ‘index’ of content that leads to other content — in this context the h3 is used for presentation and not SEO, as on normal news sites the headlines change regularly and so are not used toward the overall weight of a page vs the actual page being linked to where the phrase would be the primary meta data, og data, and h1.

You could certainly edit the template and modules to turn that into h4, but even WP defaults sidebar widgets to h3 going back 12 years now. It’s normal practice to make all supplemental headlines or section heads h3 as h4/h5/h6 generally have no actual relevance other than presentational.

Speaking as an SEO company since March 1995 and WordPress dev since 2005.

Food for thought anyway (I don’t work here).

Ok … I see your point … but the same videos are on the other site and covering 100% of its container.

On that site those inline position styles don’t exist (screen). The site does not have any additional css. its just a classic vimeo iframe.

Is it posible to add right and left position to 0 !important when a video is in portrait mode? or all together to prevent those inline postion styles? I guess that this added by some script …

Can I achieve this on the screen-shot? If not to remove those position at least to give a #player a background of #111 ?

Sreen of the styles I wont to achieve

Hi,

That would be the way to do it, using the predefined classes as the guide mentiones
https://forum.tagdiv.com/using-other-ads-non-adsense-ads/
If you could provide a link to your website we will take a look and see why the ads are not displayed properly in width.

Thanks

Yes,I know there are the top ad, inline and bottom ad.
I just want to put two ads in one inline ad,for example,one ad is after paragraph 3 and another one ad is after paragraph 8.
Thanks

Hi,

Indeed there seems to be an issue with the thumbnails quality. I have used one of your images in a test using same thumbnail size, these are the result
https://www.screencast.com/t/tUG2n8k4n
There is a noticeable difference between the image quality. From what I can see the thumbnail is already created blurry
https://www.southernvines.co.za/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Windmeul-Market-218×150.jpg
This should not happen, the theme does not influence the quality of the thumbnails. Please deactivate all plugins except them plugins, and clear all caching installed. Then regenerate the thumbnails again
https://forum.tagdiv.com/thumbnails-fix-strange-looking-images-on-blocks/
The thumbnails will be recreates, and they should look better. If you have any image
quality filter added somewhere in the theme files or other configuration, remove it.

Thanks

Hi,

I believe that is happening because of the demo, this contains custom design and automatically loads the demo style at first, then the other settings from theme panel are applied.
A solution would be to modify the menu borders (top menu and main menu) directly in the demo stylesheet, change them to your current color there
https://www.screencast.com/t/yNRc6jMqei1S
These flashes are noticeable if it takes a longer period of time to load the website.
For the top menu and main menu backgrounds, please try and enter this code directly in the theme stylesheet

.td-header-style-1 .td-header-top-menu-full {
background-color: #f9f9f9;
}
.td-header-style-1 .td-header-wrap .td-header-menu-wrap-full {
background-color: #303030;
}

This will load the backgrounds together with the rest of the style, reducing or removing the flash.
You could improve the website loading speed, to try and prevent such issues. Even installing a caching plugin may reduce or completely remove the problem
https://forum.tagdiv.com/cache-plugin-install-and-configure/

Hello

When making a post (with no sidebar) and using either blocks or grids within the post to link to other content, the blocks/grids do no align center, rather sitting to the left and leaving a large amount of white space. I have updated my development site to the latest version of Newsmag, as well as VC but the problem still is apparent.

Any ideas?

I don’t want all of my sidebars to be sticky (for instance, those w/Google ads) but there are others w/o Google ads that I would like to be sticky.

How do I do this?

Non-AdSense ads are displayed properly. When no ad is shown, AdRotate tries to display the AdSense responsive unit, but fails every time. It’s the same for any other ad location on the site. Fixed-size AdSense works fine. Responsive AdSense units work only if they’re not in groups.

I have tried placing separate AdSense units for desktop and mobile in the same group, but that doesn’t work either. I believe there’s something in the code that blocks them from rendering even though they are properly loaded in the source, but can’t figure out what it is.

Oops. My enthusiasm was premature, Simion. The CSS you suggest only works when the category-gadgets (to use your example) is included in the page build. Thus, if I select the category ‘category-gadgets’,from my sidebar, a page builds with only ‘category-gadget posts, and the css includes the style classes ‘.single .category-gadgets .(etc) ‘ so the {display:none} works.

But on a more general listing of posts that does not specify the ‘category-gadgets’ category, then {display:none} doesn’t work. (Though it works just fine if I remove ‘category-gadgets’ and my CSS reads .single. author-box-wrap { display:none; }. Which of course turns off all the author boxes and defeats the entire purpose.)

Do You have any other ideas, or are we stuck here?

Alan

Is this a bug with the Theme?

You rock man. Thank you. The header has the issue also. It appeared correct because the demo image ad was there also (duplicate banners ads on top of each other).

This was the actual header ad code.

<div class="td-all-devices">
<div data-mantis-zone="header"></div>
</div>

If I add the image, the mantis ad displays proper size.

Went ahead and added:

.td-a-rec-id-header .td-all-devices {
display: block;
}

That fixed the issue as well. Appreciate your help. Just wonder if this is a bug that should be reported somehow?

Thank you and Appreciate the great support.

Hi,

1. That message is not an error, it was added to let people know not to use the translation panel if they use WPML. You can simply dismiss the message.

2. I believe you must use the string translation module, for the widget titles
https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/string-translation/
https://wpml.org/faq/getting-string-translation-to-work/
https://wpml.org/documentation/

3. I couldn’t say how you could display ads by language. The theme supports Adsense ads and also other ad implementations, but it does not have such advanced options by default
https://forum.tagdiv.com/ads-adsense-overview/
https://forum.tagdiv.com/using-other-ads-non-adsense-ads/
I believe Adsense supports language ad targeting, if you use Adsense ads. Here you can find more information
