Newspaper theme is great with one flaw, images..
My gtmetrix score was %50-%60 when I’ve installed the theme first time, I’tried high caching etc. now It is %75.
But, I cannot increase this no matter I do, due to the two issues according to gtmetrix.
I use dedicated, cdn, %100 caching..
Specify image dimensions F (0)
Serve scaled images F (16)
Is there any solution for these?

Although I didn’t receive a message to tell me the script had finished – it seemed to work ok as you can see here howdoidate.com.
The only thing is in my wordpress themes in admin it shows Newspaper 4 not 6 although 6.1 has definitely been installed.
One thing that’s puzzling me though is how did you get the “Month in review” to cover the entire page width i.e. without the widgetised sidebar.

I have also checked this with the latest theme version 6.1 and did not found any issues – http://screencast.com/t/CVwB8rpxL – http://screencast.com/t/4bR6YjjUT Please make sure that update to the latest theme version using this guide – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/ make a backupd of your current installation and do a clean update. Note that if you have custom modification to the files and custom css you will have to re-add as this should be regarded as new theme. Or if you develop your site now is better to update and add your customizations to the new version.

Found it.
Forgot that my dev site had an old version of VC on it from last tests with Newspaper v.4.6.1 and I left that running. So while the flawless dev site was running VC 4.3.5, the main site was running the version that came with v6, VC 4.5.3 and nothing worked.
Very odd. BTW – I ran the script from the v6 welcome page to update the database, just in case, and it says no Newspaper v4 tables found and aborts. Like I said fresh install.
What am I missing by running VC 4.3.5 instead of the latest version?
Also noticing that the Teaser meta box on the post editor isn’t showing up.
It’s very odd. It’s like I don’t have VC installed because it’s not really recognizing that Newspaper is installed and working like it should.
Hosting is fully compatible and I checked all active plugins on my dev site today before making the switch – no issues whatsoever. The dev site was running the same theme before I installed Newspaper 6 that the main site was, so I don’t think my last post was right; that the other theme also using VC is messing it up somehow, because it didn’t have any issues on the dev site. The dev site is running everything identical to the main site, only much more cluttered as it’s been used for quite some time to prepare themes for the live site and do some custom work.
Custom work I’ve done is only to styling and replacing the Pinterest share button with a reddit share button. I used the static sharing url for reddit so no extra JS is loading either. Again, all works fine and as expected on the dev site.
I’m out of ideas for what to check…
I also tried switching to Newspaper parent theme and I tried overwriting all theme files via ftp (originally installed the theme via the admin since it was the first version of any tagDiv theme in the database).
I also deleted VC via ftp and re-installed. Didn’t help.
Last theme I was using used VC, too, v4.4.4. I switched from that theme to Newspaper on this site. Could the problem be settings from that old theme left behind? If so, how do I identify the issue and resolve it?

Having issues. Not my first rodeo with Newspaper. I did not upgrade from v4 of Newspaper to v6.1 – fresh database.
Uploaded Newspaper, Newspaper Child, activated Newspaper Child then VC and TD Social Counter – in that order. I’m getting the VC Menu link for its settings in the admin menu and when creating a page the builder does not show any Newspaper blocks at all. VC is showing me the demo homepage templates loaded into it by Newspaper, but when I use them, the blocks are not editable, only sortable.
Front-end of the site is loading fine. Even uses the blocks from the theme when I use a template to get it rolling, but I can’t edit the settings for it, obviously. Even tried installing and activating the API plugin to see if it would help, but no go.
This is for my main site. I’ve been testing for a few days on my development site, which is located at a subdomain of my main site, and everything has been working BEAUTIFULLY there with Newspaper 6. Really impressed with the improvements. Can’t figure out what’s making VC dumb at the moment.
What’s the malfunction?
if they are the built in categories that come with the wordpress installation, you can use them in the drop own filter ajax filter with the custom post type.
I checked the “Reviews” functionality of the theme and I could not find a way to enable User ratings. If I missed it, please let me know how I can do it.
If I am correct and you can’t enable user reviews, then can you please consider this on your “to do next” list. Having a review function without the possibility of enabling customer’s review (not just authors/editors) it’s like having a gimped feature.
Also, can you please suggest me a compatible review plugin (with user reviews capability, of course) that i can install and works with your theme?
Last part of this topic is about smart lists.
What I’ve noticed is that, all templates available alter the structure of the posts. I think it would be very useful to add a much simpler template that will only “number” the Titles. In most cases a post has a “human logic” to it that dictates where goes where. All template alter this logic and display the information their own way.
For example: If I do tutorials, I have a H2 title about “something”. Next I describe/define that “something” and, in most cases, I exemplify my description/definition with a picture. It makes sense to have that picture AFTER my description/definition text message. Else, the post might be confusing when somebody sees an image that doesn’t make sense at first and than has to read about what that picture represents.
Most useful to me would be a simpler smart list template that only alters the Titles (by adding those nice numbers) and lets the author build his/her post the way he wants, the way he/she thinks it makes sense.
Or, if you want to take it to the next level, have other template(s) that alter only the titles but also add that slider (previous/next) functionality.
That’s it.

I install Simple Lightbox but the built in lightbox is not going to disable. How can i stop this ? or is their any way to edit Built in light box, Built in light box shows images in group but i dont’t want this. i want to display just one image even in gallery.
Changing themes does not delete your posts; think of a demo “style” as a child theme for the main theme. Just don’t install demo CONTENT; only install demo STYLES. Two different things. Demo “styles” are CSS. Demo content is temp content for webdev work.
You will need to regen your thumbnails after upgrade, just like any theme change.
And of course you should be making both a dbase backup on server of your content periodically; and doing an export of your CONTENT periodically, anyway.

a) make sure you do NOT use the “load more” ajax options in modules,
b) try turning off the related posts option in posts
c) try turning off the “suggested for you” flyout box
d) try NOT using mega-menu
e) make sure you increase the default memory in your wp-config.php file to at least 96MB (see my “sticky post” on optimization for how to do that).
ADMIN: should likely add the wp-config.php memory upgrade option as a “requirement” for pre-install notes!

As I can see there is a template for an author page within the themepanel.
But it did not create a page for it while installing the theme.
Do I just have to create a page manually and it will work?
Or do i have to use a plugin for such functionalities?

I just upgraded to 6.1 and i am facing few issues.
1) The top menu categories have gone haywire… I need all those categories in one line. It was happening in the previous version now its not. Please let me know what to do?
2) How can i change the star rating colour in reviews. Right now it showing as black stars, I want blue or yellow stars.
3) I installed a newsletter widget, the bar on top of it is not coming. Maybe its a limitation on this third party widget, but maybe you have a solution, on how to display blue bar on top of it with the name (newsletter) just like there is one on top of each widget like editors pick and popular.

Delete old plugin, install new one. Use new one.
You can disable actual search box and install Ajaxy Live Search plugin.

I tried to update to Newspaper 6, but it mushed up my site completely.
Luckily I backed up before and downloaded the old Theme folder installation through FTP, so I deleted the new Newspaper 6 theme folder files and uploaded again the old theme folder installation.
Now the website won’t load, I get this message:

Wp-admin is in your root folder, part of wordpress.
To install theme, deletd your old theme folder and your new theme folder replaces old one in your wp-content/themes folder.
Newspaper 6 is completely different from np4, its almost an entirely nee theme.
As with all WordPress installs:
WP admin > appearance > widgets
