I have shut down my previous domain in lieu of a better name, installed theme on new site and now even after activating the theme, the theme panel does not work properly. Logo won’t change, can’t make changes to top bar etc etc… what’s going on? Any ideas?

I just updated my website with newspaper 6 and I really love the new demo created by the theme update. But while I was trying to install the demo data I get an Ajax error and after reinstalling everything didn’t solved the issue. Here’s the message I’m getting:

The documentation you’re looking at is for Newspaper v.4.6.2 and older, but you have v6.1 installed. Newspaper 6 is a very different theme. Use the documentation link on the right side of each forum page here for Newspaper 6 and you’ll get what you need.

When I switched to the normal theme, the posts populated. So something’s definitely incomplete with the child theme’s setup.
One thing I haven’t done yet is implement the API part of this new theme.
The instructions are a little too technical for me. But could this be the reason the child theme isn’t working right?

I purchased this theme twice for two websites that are hosted on the same server.
On this website: nextwavecities.ph, some fonts are not applied on some elements:
but it works well on bebgc.ph:
and (still on nextwavecities.ph) the sidebar widget for blog posts is still using the demo widget, even though i’ve already chosen which sidebar to use for blog posts – this happened ever since I installed the theme which was last week and it still shows the same result even if I clear cache.

I’m using Newspaper 6.1.
I’ve installed the theme on my website and want to use the Homepage – Newspaper look.
I’ve gone to Homepage and added the Homepage -Newspaper template.
However when I look at my homepage it is not displaying correctly. The Big Grid Slide is not there nor are all the elements of the theme such as the blocks. It just displays a list of posts and the default sidebar boxes.
However when I install the demo and select the Homepage – Newspaper template, it looks perfect. I have tried to emulate all the settings but it doesn’t work. I’m wondering If I have not applied the theme properly to the Homepage but it looks okay to me.When I try and install the demo without the content it doesn’t work. And there seems to be no signs that there is anything different.
Why is the template not being applied properly to my homepage?
If I install the demo with the sample content, how do I make the Newspaper theme the default for my homepage and remove the other pages so it is safe to use?

Please check this guide to update to version 6 of the theme – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/. If you update from version 4 of the theme you also have to run the script, it will import old settings from database and it will change the shortcodes(it is specified in the docs) – http://screencast.com/t/eZxxuqvsTir Unfortunately you will have to re-add widgets on your sidebars, some of them may not be imported or don’t exist anymore.

I’ve checked your site and found that one required theme class isn’t present to VC plugin row containers.
Try to re-install the theme and to do it connect via FTP remove theme’s folder then upload the theme’s files (don’t overwrite it). Use this guide – FTP method – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-theme/ and also make sure you do a backup of your current installation in case something goes wrong.

I have the latest version of Newspaper 6 theme and the latest version of WordPress (4.2.2).
When I try to edit a category page, I get the standard wordpress settings page, not your custom page shown in your documentation. I uninstalled all plug-ins except for the 3 you require/suggest.
Is this a known issue? Is there a workaround?

Alright, got it figured out.
For the first part, the database was storing old options from the last theme I used that also used VC. I wiped those out to remove any mentions of the old theme and inserted the values from my dev site. That wiped my theme settings out so I imported those again (thankfully I had them saved), and then I went to VC settings and selected all shortcodes for administrator and saved. Viola! I have all the Newspaper blocks available in VC now.
But for the second part, I’m still getting the screwed up styles in the page builder. It’s because I still have VC v.4.3.5 installed and not the latest version.
I’m hesitant to install the latest version just because of recent conversations on here regarding NewsMag (which I also have) and the Shim plugin because of how new versions of VC are slowing sites down to a crawl since NewsMag v1.7.
So, if I upgrade VC to v4.5.3 as distributed with Newspaper v6.1, will the site run slower than it does with VC v.4.3.5 as distributed with Newspaper v4.6.1?
Whatever option is faster is what I’ll stick with. Would really like to hear @NeoTrope weigh in on this as well.
There is very specific instruction in the theme documentation available on this site for updating from an older version to v6/v6.1. It includes methods by which certain parts have to be removed and then new replacement installed. Be sure to follow those exactly. You cannot simply update the Visual Composer, for example, by uploading the new plugin over the old one. The old one has to be deactivated and fully deleted before uploading the new version in most cases.
There are multiple ways to do some of the steps listed in the upgrade documentation, so it’s tempting to use the method you know best that usually gets you the end result desired. Don’t give into familiarity. Follow the instructions precisely. They’re specific for good reason.

Thank you, Marius. I’m very pleased with how it came out. Even more so because the theme is faster than ever. You guys did a great job with the v6 update. Bravo.
But I haven’t fixed it, just found a temporary fix that doesn’t seem as obviously broken while we work on it. Here are the problems:
1. Categories Filter ** This was my bad. Didn’t correct the offset properly for the block after the ad while building the page.
Category filtering in blocks on the home page I’ve built is set as default, to show all categories, but it’s only showing the first category, alphabetically, from the site (Cowboys Blog). I’ve tried updating it several times and checking the other categories but no luck. All categories work fine when I select them individually, but not when selecting “All Categories” from the filter. This occurs with and without unique articles enabled, and after all caches have been cleared.
2. Newspaper Block Shortcodes in VC
Visual Composer is really not reading the themes blocks. See the screenshot for what I see:
That has remained constant on InsideTheStar.com (Main Site) while it was not a problem on Dev.InsideTheStar.com (Development Site, also live). It remains constant whether I use v6.1 parent or child theme, and whether I use VC v4.3.5 or v.4.5.3. I’ve checked upload type (binary vs. ascii) and uploaded fresh copies from the theme directory of the whole theme multiple times. I’ve also removed VC via both methods and reinstalled but no fix, yet.
I was able to create the homepage I’m using now by taking the page on my dev site, reverting to the classic editor so it would show me the VC shortcodes, and copied those shortcodes into the classic editor on the homepage for the main site. I couldn’t use the blocks any other way. With VC v.4.5.3 (as distributed with Newspaper v6.1) I couldn’t even edit those blocks at all on the main site, just move them around (couldn’t edit, duplicate, or delete them from the VC editor).
3. VC Editor Styles
I’m also seeing this issue while using Newspaper v6.1 with VC v4.3.5 (the only version I can access this following screen from):
I can still use the box with that broken style for the tabs up top, but it hints at the main problem, I’d think.
I would have liked to get it figured out already, but all I was able to do was get the site limping well enough that most visitors won’t notice (it’s a production site).
Any ideas? The only thing worth noting from the system info tab of the theme is that I’m running at 40mb instead of 64mb. It’s not the problem, though. Both the main site and dev site are running on the same host with the same setups, and the dev site is not experiencing any troubles with VC v.4.3.5.
So I have just installed Newspaper 6 and would like to remove the G+ and Pinterest buttons on the social sharing bar that appears above my posts and leave only Facebook and Twitter buttons there. How do I do this?
Might not be issue; but make sure you fully deleted old version of SpeedBooster plugin; and install the new one included with the NEW version of theme, if you’re using NP 6.1.
Disable Akismet, then re-enable again.
a) delete old social counter plugin
b) clear all your site/CDN caching
c) install new social counter plugin
d) put widget in sidebar
e) put in your social account info per the examples
f) check the page on your site
g) if not working, check to see if you have conflict with some other FB/twitter plugin (try F12 in browser to show console errors; easiest with Chrome)
