My update went perfectly.

@carelpedre

try to delete visual composer, tag div plugins folders, theme folder, and install the new versions from scratch; don’t use child theme; try using my upgrade guide.

It does work!

Hi,

I’ve updated the theme, but now, the theme panel refuses to work. It has been horrible alltogether. I have followed yours and Chris’s how-tos but none of them helped.

This is what I get when I click on “Categories” under “Layout settings”

td_api_base: td_category_walker_panel is not set. A component with the id td_category_walker_panel is missing. This can be due to an older plugin.
/home/androidportal/public_html/wp-content/themes/androidportalv2/includes/wp_booster/td_wp_booster_functions.php

Missing parameter: ‘file’
/home/androidportal/public_html/wp-content/themes/androidportalv2/includes/wp_booster/td_autoload_classes.php

http://puu.sh/gILdu/304dc811f8.png

When I click on anything underneath that, it stays blank. I cannot, therefore, access custom CSS or anything else.

I have done a fresh install of everything, switched the theme to 2015, installed all plugins, but nothing seems to work.

I would really appreciate if you take a look – androidportal.sk

Thanks,
Lukas

I get this notice in my wp-admin and across the whole site: “Please update your [tagDiv social counter] Plugin!” Also need to reinstall stuff?

Hi,

@rumadlol
Please try to remove Social Counter plugin then install it again from the /plugins folder that comes with the theme’s files that you downloaded from themeforest.

Thanks!

No, The visual composer doesn’t affect the configuration. Just remove it and install the new version.

Hi,

If you haven’t made any custom changes to theme’s files then overwriting the theme folder via FTP should update it the correct way: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-theme/
To make sure that the overwriting process isn’t causing other issue you could also delete the theme file first the upload the files of updated version.
Please make sure you do a backup of your current theme and WordPress installation before updating it so that you can revert back to it in case something goes wrong.

Update: Thanks Chris! I wasn’t aware you’ve also wrote!

Thanks

Hi,

Please try this: Remove Visual Composer plugin and all tagDiv plugins and see if works. Then install them again.
We have tested the update and works fine on our side, no blank screen 😐

Hey there! So I received an email from theme forest this morning saying that an update was available and I tried to install it via the wordpress backend on http://www.Dewdat.Co and it failed due to there already being a listing in the directory.

Is this a theme update or is it only for the files on theme forest? Is there anyway to have the theme update automatically?

Hi,

That line in function file checks’ if you have the woocommerce plugin installed.
If you do have it please make sure you have it disabled and test gain using juts the Visual Composer plugin.
Please let us know and if the woocommerce plugin is the one causing this please try to remove it and install the latest version of it.
I’ve also tried to recreate this but couldn’t mange to do it. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks

Hi,

I have just purchased Newspaper theme and installed it on WPEngine servers, everything was fine I guess until I have activated all recommended plugins.

After activating plugins I get this error on site:

502 – The page request was canceled because it took too long to complete

In error logs I have this:

[Fri Mar 20 13:02:49 2015] [error] [client 217.199.134.90] PHP Warning: in_array() expects parameter 2 to be array, string given in xyz/wp-content/themes/xyz/functions.php on line 778

It is always line 778 of functions.php.

What is going on, and how can I fix this?

I need answer ASAP.

Thanks!

Hi,
I updated the theme but the Visual Composer plug-in is acting as if was not updated:
1/cannot use the front end editor (won’t appear)
2/ grid elements broken and full of errors

Warning: array_unshift() expects parameter 1 to be array, null given in /htdocs/public/www/wp-content/plugins/js_composer/include/params/vc_grid_item/shortcodes.php on line 686

Warning: array_unshift() expects parameter 1 to be array, null given in /htdocs/public/www/wp-content/plugins/js_composer/include/params/vc_grid_item/shortcodes.php on line 686

Fatal error: Wrong vc_map object. Base attribute is required in /htdocs/public/www/wp-content/plugins/js_composer/include/helpers/helpers_api.php on line 9

3/ All the new VC features won’t appear.

I tried everything
Reinstall the theme
Reinstall the plugin
Deactivate & reactivate all the other plug-ins one by one

What else?

Plug-in version 4.4.2

Hi,

After you have installed the demo you can import stacks from Theme Panel: https://forum.tagdiv.com/installing-the-demo-data/

Hope this helps!

Alin [tagDiv]

Hi,

1. On the first page you don’t use that block properly, please take a look on our demo how block 6 an9 are used( http://screencast.com/t/2kVZPiI4OIzI ): http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/block-6/http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/block-9/
On category page please try this custom css: http://screencast.com/t/RyNkkd0E

.category .td_mod9 .item-details{
margin-left: auto;
margin-right: 300px;
}

2. You don’t use the mega menu properly please follow our documentation for this: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-use-the-megamenu/ and also the result on our demo: http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/

3. Please try to enable all shortcodes from Visual Composer settings: http://screencast.com/t/yW4ZmGFjsf
Also if this doesn’t solve the issue please try to delete Visual Composer and install it again.

Thanks!

Hello Chris,

thanks for your answer: Is this really the official Solution, that that also http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/ uses on their website?

I need to make shure that this is not a feature of Newspaper theme. In case tagdiv provides this feature out of the box I rather want to user their logic, not install a plugin.

Thanks!

Install the Yoast SEO plugin to control the OG data for twitter and facebook.

Hello,

my Blog does NOT show and og: Metadata in the Header? Which component of Newspaper does include this Data? Is this logic included in the td-social-counter.zip Plugin that can be installed? (I did not yet install it, to reduce overhead, as I do not neeed the Sidbar Social Widgets that your plugin provides).

Or are the og: Metatags generated by the core components and need to be activated, but where?

Thanks!

Hello,

I’ve recently installed the theme and noticed that there is a conflict between the theme and the Facebook plugin.

I use the plugin because I need to monitor the shares on the network by an application. However, the conflict that is going on is between the images.

It says: The parser’s result for this metadata did not match the input metadata. Likely, this was caused by the data being ordered in an unexpected way, multiple values being given for a property only expecting a single value, or property values for a given property being mismatched. Here are the input properties that were not seen in the parsed result: ‘og:image:width, og:image:height’.

So is there any code to exclude to normalize the situation? I did it before on a previous theme, but now I couldn’t find.

Thanks!

Depends on the size of the site, etc.
Basically some sites you can just do the “export” tool and “import” to the new site and bingo it works.

Or, in other cases you have to move the dbase over to new server using phpmyadmin, then install the dbase on new server, then install WP and point wp-config.php at your new dbase; presumably copy over all your image folders via FTP, and do an export of your theme settings.

Anyway… DUPLICATOR works pretty well. I just did this for one site.

If both servers use same system (e.g., PLESK) — “site migration” much easier as it moves everything over including emails, passwords, folders, php settings, etc. — it’s a 1:1 snapshot.

Hi,

Please also try this with all plugins disabled, also empty all caches/purge files (if you use CDN) then enable all of the one by one to see which one is causing issues.

We haven’t made any tests with the theme using this plugin so I can’t give you an accurate answer on this.
If the wp-rocket plugins turns out to cause this try going trough it’s settings as @Carel also stated above some settings cause issues.

Please also note that we recommend using W3 Total Cache use only Page Cache. (no database cache, no object cache, no javascript minify) and also please be sure that WordPress installation have enough resources to make the caches.

Let us know how it goes!

Thanks

If the theme didn’t support Visual Composer I would just leave it at the final version. Just because there is an update doesn’t mean you have to use it.

One of my top websites has been running the same version of Woo Canvas for 2 years. The updates to the theme didn’t add anything I needed, so there was no burning need to upgrade it. Site works, has an audience, no need to keep updating every little thing unless it’s a security issue.

New color paint comes out for my house; I don’t need to repaint it.

v5 isn’t going to break v4 … it won’t stop working … your site isn’t going to explode and lose all your content.

In the webdev community we refer to this as “freezing” a site once it works. Much like in our music studio, when the system works, we “freeze” it — we don’t install every little software patch and driver which might break something. Same idea.

Upshot: if your site works, use it. Concentrate on making it work NOW, and then work on the content. Waiting for some new version of the theme to fix your site and do something beyond the version you purchased isn’t very productive. It works great “right now” …

Sorry. Just an opinion. Your mileage may vary, of course.
